Significance of the coloured icons in the data tree?

Hello, this is wonderful tool! Thank you!

I have a question about icons in the data tree - some have numbers in and some have an X...   - the numbers are from the 'admin_level' tag, and the X means that tag is missing?  What about the colours of these icons - some are green, some are red - what does this indicate?

You are correct that X means that there is no admin_level tag for that polygon. Which could very well be correct data.

Green means that tag boundary is set to administrative, while red means that boundary is set to something else. Having the boundary tag set to something is required for OSM-Boundaries to import the polygon.

Ah thank you, that makes sense :)

I will be able to use this info to help validate the underlying OSM data, and improve its consistency! :)
