Only-land option - Border lakes

Thank you for making this data available. I have a small problem with ‘land-only’. I'm registered in ‘explorer’ and yet, when I export in ‘land-only’, the vertexes of the polygons making up the borders that pass through the middle of the lakes are not brought back to the lake shore. For example with France and Lake Geneva. Or Canada and the great lakes. Or have I misunderstood this option?

The issue is that OSM-Boundaries is only a presentation layer of the data in OpenStreetMap. OSM-Boundaries is using OSM's Coastline to determine this. There is no guarantee that all lakes are removed, and to be honest I don't know if that's the goal either.

I know some bigger lakes are removed, but definitely not all. And I don't think it would be wise to remove all either, so the question is which should be removed. But that's a question for the OSM community, and up to them to define a policy.

You should expect all ocean to be cut off, the rest isn't as deterministic, and it's out of our control.

- This is what's used to determine the coastline: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Coastline

- This tool is used to process the data into an actual (multi)polygon: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSMCoastline

- Then we intersect that data with the boundary data.
